THE INS AND OUTS OF MICRO WEDDINGS

Let’s face it, this year turned a lot of weddings upside down and shook them around. But here’s the thing, a lot of good still came from it, cue MICRO WEDDINGS!
We’ve actually been documenting micro weddings for the past 3 years and have loved every second of them. This year they made their debut front and center. You might be wondering what micro weddings are, who they’re for and how you can have one. After doing well over 40 of them, I am going to give you some insight into all of that and more!
Micro weddings are just that; a MICRO weddings. Not to be confused with an elopement, those are when it’s just the couple, officiant and photographer/videographer there!
With micro weddings you can basically have all the perks of a big wedding just with less people and expense. For a wedding to be considered micro, i use the following to classify it:
20 people or less including your vendors
Happens on a weekend, but can also happen on a weekday
2-4 hours in length
You would be surprised how much you can fit into 2-4 hours at a micro wedding (coming from a photography standpoint!)
Micro weddings are literally for ANYONE who just wants to get married, but also still wants a few more traditional wedding elements in there and who wants to have their closest family and friends by their sides as they say “I do”!
There’s really no wrong way to do a micro wedding. The great thing is, since it’s smaller you can really nail down what you want and how you want it. Less pomp and circumstance! (But they can also be super fancy if that’s your thing too!!)
All I care about is that you are doing what makes you happy when it comes to your wedding. Pleaseeee do what makes you happy!
A big pro of a micro wedding is the cost! We’ve done a micro wedding that wanted to go all out with flowers, and since it was just 10 people and only the ceremony, they could go all out because they had the budget for flowers now.
And if we are real, planning a wedding is a headache. I know, I’ve been there and we ended up doing a micro wedding before they were even a thing! Do I regret that choice? NOT AT ALL!! I would do it exactly the same each time if I was stuck in a never ending loop of our wedding day.
I get it, micro weddings might not be great for everyone, and that is soooo okay!! Micro weddings are just another option in the pool of weddings that you can pick to do for your wedding day! There’s really no right or way to get married!!
Weddings get blown out of proportion and people sometimes forget the reason we have weddings in the first place. Here’s a friendly reminder that weddings are about getting married to the person you love, really, that’s all that matters. Yeah it’s fun to dream about all that you can make a wedding into, but always come back to the true meaning of it all!
I had past micro wedding couples weigh in on their experiences with their own micro wedding. I had someone on instagram ask me if people regretted having a micro wedding, so I wanted to get some first person thoughts on that!
Surprise, they all said they have zero regrets AND that having such a small wedding really emphasized what weddings are all about AND that they could totally be all there on their wedding day. I‘d say that’s a win win for sure!
